Allianz

Building a shared foundation for digital excellence.

The Allianz Group is one of the world’s leading insurers and asset managers serving private and corporate customers in nearly 70 countries. Allianz customers benefit from a broad range of personal and corporate insurance services, ranging from property, life and health insurance to assistance services to credit insurance and global business insurance. Allianz is one of the world’s largest investors, managing around 761 billion euros on behalf of its insurance customers. Furthermore, Allianz asset managers PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors manage about 1.9 trillion euros of third-party assets. In 2024, over 156,000 employees achieved total business volume of 179.8 billion euros and an operating profit of 16.0 billion euros for the Group.

In order to manage digital transformation on the scale of Allianz, a structured and holistic understanding of digital maturity was required. The Digital Maturity Assessment (DMA) was designed as a comprehensive framework covering Data Management, Tech Stack, User Experience, Customer Journey Design, Organization, and Artificial Intelligence. The framework consists of more than 120 structured questions and KPIs, which are assessed in close collaboration with each Operating Entity and market. Rolled out across more than 32 countries and OEs, DMA creates a consistent, comparable view on digital maturity while reflecting local market realities. By combining quantitative KPIs with qualitative assessments, DMA provides Allianz with a robust foundation to identify gaps, prioritize initiatives, and steer digital transformation year over year.

Over four consecutive years, the DMA has evolved from an assessment into a strategic steering instrument. It provides transparency on progress, highlights structural gaps, and supports markets in prioritizing initiatives that create measurable impact.

By embedding DMA into the global digital agenda, Allianz created a common language for transformation and a fact-based foundation for strategic decisions. Today, DMA supports alignment across countries, accelerates learning between markets, and helps translate digital ambition into sustained execution at scale.
